JEE MAINS 2024: Important Points to Revise Before Exam-Atomic Structure
This Blog will help you to revise the Topic- Atomic Structure of Chemistry for your JEE Mains 2024 exam. Learn and remember these points for your last month’s revision for JEE Mains 2024.
Bohr’s Model:
- Electrons orbit the nucleus at fixed energy levels.
- Each energy level has a specific energy associated with it.
- Electrons emit or absorb energy as they move between energy levels.
Quantum Numbers:
- Principal Quantum Number (n): Energy level of an electron.
- Azimuthal Quantum Number (l): Shape of the orbital.
- Magnetic Quantum Number: Orientation of the orbital.
- Spin Quantum Number: Electron spin.
Electronic Configuration:
- Aufbau principle: Electrons fill the lowest energy orbitals first.
- Pauli exclusion principle: No two electrons in an atom have the same set of quantum numbers.
- Hund’s rule: Electrons occupy orbitals singly before pairing up.
Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle:
- Impossible to simultaneously know the exact position and momentum of a particle.
Schrodinger Wave Equation:
- Describes the behavior of electrons in an atom.
- Solutions provide wave functions, indicating the probability density of finding electrons.
Quantum Mechanical Model:
- Describes electron behavior using wave functions and orbitals.
- Orbitals are regions of high electron probability.
Periodic Trends:
- Ionization energy increases across a period and decreases down a group.
- Atomic size increases down a group and decreases across a period.
Spectral Lines:
- Emission spectra: Lines when electrons transition to lower energy levels.
- Absorption spectra: Lines when electrons absorb energy and move to higher energy levels.
Isotopes and Isotopic Notation:
- Isotopes have the same number of protons but different numbers of neutrons.
- Represent isotopes with isotopic notation.
Avogadro’s Number and Mole Concept:
- Avogadro’s number (6.022 x 10^23) represents one mole of entities (atoms, molecules, ions).
- Molar mass is the mass of one mole of a substance in grams.
Bohr vs. Quantum Mechanical Model:
- Bohr’s model has fixed orbits; the quantum model describes electrons using probability.
